gold coast girl a chicago based fashion lifestyle guide
It’s no surprise that people are always on the move! It’s challenging to stay in one place for too long when there’s so much to do and see. There always seems to be somewhere new to go, whether for work or pleasure. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been known to move a lot recently. I know how it feels to be constantly packing and unpacking, never feeling wholly settled. See Gold Coast Girl, a Chicago-based fashion and lifestyle guide, and plan a trip to Chicago. But I’ve been getting a lot of questions about moving to Chicago, finding apartments, choosing a neighborhood, and so on.
This summer marks four years since I relocated from New York City to Chicago’s Gold Coast apartment. You may recall that my living situation was a little erratic last year… I had Sublette’s, stayed with family and friends, and then went on an unplanned four-month trip through Latin America with Remote Year. But now I’m back in my old apartment, and I’m relieved to be home.
I took my time when deciding on a neighborhood in Chicago. I wanted a place where I could easily walk around, like New York City. If you follow me on Instagram Stories, you already know how much I enjoy getting out and about and walking around. So I needed a neighborhood that was easy to navigate without a car. And if I had to use public transportation, I wanted it to be as convenient as possible.
I chose to live on Chicago’s Gold Coast, and I love it here! It may not be the best neighborhood for everyone, as lifestyle and preferences vary greatly, but it works well for me. I get a lot of questions on Instagram from people wondering where they should live in Chicago, and it’s difficult to answer without knowing more about them. Although Chicago neighborhoods vary greatly, I wanted to share why I enjoy living in this part of town.
I must say that the Gold Coast was not as vibrant four years ago as it is now. The neighborhood has been resurgent, with many new businesses opening recently. And everything is for the better… Every day, I fall more in love with my neighborhood! I like to say that I predicted it and knew the area had so much potential.
Whether visiting the Gold Coast or a local, this list of my favorite Gold Coast spots is the best! This fantastic area of the city has something for everyone, from great restaurants to historic theaters.
Little Guide to the Gold Coast in Chicago
Coffee shops and cafes
Restoration Hardware’s 3 Arts Café is great for getting coffee and cookies.
Kate’s favorite Cuban café is Cafecito.
Dollop is a little off the beaten path, but it’s a neighborhood treasure.
La Colombe’s Oatmilk Draft Black & Tan is delicious, as is their iced vanilla latte. During happy hour, you can get a rosé at Petite Margaux.
Brunch
Somerset at the Viceroy is the place to go if you want stunning décor and delicious food and drinks. If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, try Original Pancake House. You will not be let down!
Quick snacks
If you’re looking for some good Velvet Tacos, trust me when I say they’re the best! They’re open until the early morning hours if you get hungry after midnight. Goddess & Grocer is a great option for delicious salads, sandwiches, and grab-and-go snacks.

If you’re going to Oak Street Beach, stop by and get your picnic supplies! Aster Hall is a newly renovated food hall that is well worth a visit. They serve food from the Hog Salt restaurant group, and their bar serves some incredible cocktails!
Drinks
Drum Bar is a fantastic neighborhood hangout that few people are aware of. It is one of my favorites if you’re looking for a romantic spot. The indoor area is fantastic, but my favorite part is the outdoor rooftop.
Gibson’s Patio is one of the best patios in the neighborhood for people-watching. Try Tavern on Rush outside if you can’t get a table at Gibson’s.
Deveraux Rooftop at the Viceroy is a fantastic happy hour spot. On a summer weekend, it can get quite lively during the day, but it’s still a great place to grab a drink with some friends.
Dinner
Are we looking for a fantastic place to eat or drink in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood? Hugo’s, Maple & Ash, and Margeaux are all worth a visit! All three locations provide distinct dining experiences that are sure to please.
